Question: Why are the transmission properties of viewports important?
Sometimes they are, sometimes they are not. If the purpose of the viewport is only to see the inside of the chamber, the transmission properties of the glass are not critical. However, if the wavelengths of light being transmitted through the glass are critical, then the type of glass should be one that transmits those wavelengths.
